Improving Your Swing

Although many non-players may be surprised to learn that golfers are surprisingly protective when it comes to their swings, it’s absolutely true. Very few things in the game of golf are as personal as a golfer’s swing. Few things are as glorious and frustrating as a golfer with a great swing, or when a golfer is trying to perfect their swing. It becomes even more difficult to simply point out the deficiencies in a golfer’s swing because no two golfers hit the ball in the same way. Each person has a different body type, different strengths, and different skill levels. Unfortunately, many golfers do not realize that a small change or tweak in their swing could result in noticeable and impressive improvements.

Like any tasks, practice is always the cornerstone of improvement. The best golfers only became the best because they practiced often – more often than everyone else. Even if they had a great deal of talent, they still understood that they needed to practice. Not only did they practice to become the best, they continue to practice to stay in top form. A point must also be made that there is a clear distinction between playing golf, and practicing golf. Practicing golf enables you to slow down and analyze your swing or any other aspect of play, and then see where changes can be made.

There are many golfers who would benefit by taking the time to practice a little more and then play a little less, at least for a short while.

Will 2010 Be England’s Year?

With less than 170 days to the FIFA World Cup 2010, the excitement is building up pretty fast. England will be competing against 31 other nations for the honor of being the World Champion of 2010. Will 2010 be England’s year? Let’s take a look at some of the facts we have so far.

England is rooted to be one of the favourites to win the World Cup; according to the poll, the only two other teams that are considered to have better chances are Spain and Brazil. England’s performances so far are quite astonishing indeed, winning 9 out of 10 matches and scoring 34 goals in total. Our favorite top scorer, Wayne Rooney, scored 9 of these goals.

England will be competing against USA, Algeria, and Slovenia in Group C; the team should have no trouble at all against these opponents. If England succeeds in ruling Group C, it will face the second qualifying team from Group D. England should have no troubles securing a place in the quarter-finals; the competition will surely get tougher afterwards since we will be playing against stronger teams such Italy, Germany, and Brazil.

Will this be our year? Will we get the honor of winning the 2010 World Cup? Everything is possible indeed. Make sure you check out the English Team’s official website for more updates and insights.

The Most Amazing Golfer Ever

Golf News Online

I must admit, I am more of a follower of Golf than a player these days. I guess I just don’t have the fitness I used to have as I often find a full round of 18 holes a struggle. Maybe I am getting old or maybe I should just find a course that doesn’t have so many hills! Still, following golf is my passion, especially online. Mainly due to the various news sources from around the world. A particular favourite website for mine for Golf News is metro.co.uk – Not just Golf news, but all sport related news in general. I have recently been following the Singapore open via Metro and have been particularly impressed with Ernie Els so far, he really is leading the way in this tournament and is currently top of the leader board with an impressive one under 70. I have also been impressed with Simon Dyson so far, he is proving to be a bit of a challenge too. I must admit, all this Golf action from Asia is making me wanting to get back out on the green again Saturday morning, hopefully the weather will hold out and I will be able to get a few rounds in whilst the wife is out.

Golf for Newbies

When you see Michelle Wie or Tiger Woods on TV teeing off on the greens, you probably think golf looks like an easy game to play. All you do is use a golf club to hit the little white golf ball as far as it will go sink it into a hole. You get to try four or five times, how hard can it be? However, the game of golf is somewhat a little more complicated than it appears to be and it can take years of practice just to break par.

One of the most complicated aspects of the game for those new to the sport is deciding which golf club they should use to make each shot. The best thing to do when you are new to golf is to get just a few clubs and stick to those. After a little practice, you will learn what feels right as you begin to understand the differences between each of the clubs. You may even gain enough confidence to begin betting with your friends.

To grip the club correctly, both of your hands should feel as if they are one together. Each of your palms should face the other one as if in prayer. Get to your starting position, stand with your feet apart and knee bent a little, and then bend your wrists to lift the head of the club. Ideally, you will be able to swing the shaft straight up to the middle of your head without changing your face.

Driving Ranges are the key to new golfers

As the cost of land value has been on the rise over the years, the cost of golf has also increased. If you are new to golf and having a hard time justifying spending the high cost to learn to play, go to the driving range and save your money. Golf is really broken into three things, driving, chipping and putting. At the driving range you can work on perfecting the first two for only a few bucks and then go play a round when you feel you are ready.

Nothing is more frustrating for a new golfer than spending half of the time chasing wild shots that are no where near the fareway. Tall grass, ponds and trees tend to make most new golfers want to walk away after only a few holes. If you go to a driving range you can work all of the kinks out of your strokes making your experience that much more enjoyable.

At the range, you can get a bucket of balls for cheap and bring your own clubs. Start out with your woods on the tee and keep shooting until you can get a nice straight shot at a reasonable distance. The key to practice is form. Make sure you are driving it straight and not just hitting it to see how far it can go. Once you get your shots fairly straight, drop a few balls on the grass and work thru your irons. Again, just work on getting the shots straight and a find the right form where at the end of the shot you feel comfortable and confident you can repeat it over and over again.

The Inside Out of Golf

Golf is an elegant and posh sport. Not everyone can afford to play golf. However, for those few people who can afford to play golf, then I shall wish you good luck but what if you are a rookie just trying your luck in playing Golf? Do you have what it takes to play Golf? The skills, equipments and not forgetting the passion. How do you train yourself to be a golfer?

Some of you might able to hire the experts to tutor you. Others will just have to do it their way.

In plain words, Golf simply means a game that you play by hitting a small white coloured ball with a stick until it runs down and end up in one hole with a flag next to it. Professionally, Golf is a game of startegy and skills where you have to be precise when you hit the golf ball with the right club into the hole with the lowest number of strokes needed to get the ball into the hole. The equipments needed to play golf are you need to have golf clubs, golf balls, tees, gloves and the right pair of comfortable shoes.

In short, Golf is normally for the rich and famous as they have the money. If they don’t have the skills it won’t be a problem as they are rich enough to hire professional instructors to teach them. Golf is a sport profession that can earn up to millions by competing in one tournament. The famous golf player is Tiger Woods, who is known to have the best golf skills in the world thus he is making tons of money.

The bad thing about Golf is that to build the golf course, we will have to cut down the trees, meaning clear up the land to make space for a golf course. Of course, you don’t see any small golf course because the fact is golf course has to be very large to accomodate different type of holes with different range of measurements. Now, can you imagine how influential Golf can be. Golf is a gold mine. You build a golf course and players pay a hefty fees just to play on the course, the cleared up land that was once filled with tall and precious trees. Now it is all gone.

People To Avoid

After you’ve played a substantial amount of golf, been through several courses and have become comfortable with your own skills and ability, you realize that not everyone should be allowed to be your golf partner – that’s right, allowed. If you want to avoid a terrible round of 18 holes, then you’d better try your hardest to not have one of these people as your partner.

The Boss: You really just can’t win in this situation – you can’t lose either. If you play too well he won’t like it. If you lose too badly, he won’t like it that you threw the game – or worse, he’ll think that you’re just not that good at golf, and possible attach those same thoughts to other areas, like your job.

The Rookie: You thought it’d be nice to take along the beginner. Show him the ropes and how great the game can truly be. Until you spend too much time at a single hole because the rookie keeps slicing air, or keeps hitting his ball into the pond, or takes forever to get out of the sand trap. Not to mention the evil stares you’ll get from the backup of golfers behind the two of you.

There are other types that you want to avoid having as your golf partner, but we’ll save that for another day.
